What is Nazaré known for?
Nazaré is known for having some of the biggest rideable waves in the world, drawing professional surfers every winter, alongside a relaxed beach town atmosphere, fresh seafood and dramatic cliff views over the Atlantic.
When is the best time to visit Nazaré?
Late spring through early autumn (May to September) is best for beach weather and calm seas. If you want to see the giant winter waves, visit between October and March, when swell from the Názare Canyon can produce some of the largest waves on the planet.
Is Nazaré worth visiting?
Yes. Beyond the famous waves, Nazaré has a real working harbour, a funicular up to the clifftop Sitio district, long sandy beaches and easy day trips to Óbidos, Alcobaça and Leiria.
